People are only shocked when they hear that because they don't consider how their meat gets on their table. My children help with the processing, which shocks most ppl.(they are 5) But I think it's just as important for them to know where your meat comes from as well as eggs, produce and dairy. And that we depend on these animals to survive whether they are in a feed lot at a  commercial farm, or out in our back yard.

For some reason this conversation reminds me of this:

Hi Nina! It's nice to meet you. I would love to one day come to IL to go to Cahokia? Have you ever been there?
Pony, that is such a funny article! I hope they are being  ridiculously sarcastic, or since have been enlightened. LOL
Hi Lindsey! I'm excited to hear that you have twins. The first year was hell, wasn't it? But it's so much easier now! Are your girls Identical or Fraternal?
Hi Twitch! Yurt's are awesome! It's great to meet you.

It seems to get easier each day. Actually, I kinda liked the baby stage. At least I could leave them in their little bouncy chairs for enough time to get a shower. Once they were mobile, that whole showering concept went flying out the fucking window!
They're fraternal, but go through phases where even I have trouble telling them apart.

Yours?

We don't know what our twins are, because we never had the placenta analyzed. And we change our minds daily. Everything about one is pretty much the same with the other, even their cavities at the 1st dentist appt. were in the same spot in the same teeth. The dentist said it was weird. No one but me and my husband can tell them apart, and if they have their back's turned I can't even tell. But I can see little differences that set them apart from each other
What you said on the whole "mobile" part was completely true. For a while I was ready to pull my hair out. But it's so much easier now that they can communicate to me what they need. And I have a little more me time now that they are in Pre-School, which is good for any mother. It makes the days go a little smoother.....and I have to mop less.
Do your girls share a special bond? I can't keep mine away from each other.

Boy, how did I miss this?

Welcome, Paige!  I'm GrandpaNorm, and I think I'm the oldest guy here.  Actually, I'm positive I AM the oldest male here.  Now, if you're looking for advice, this is definitely the place to be.  If you're looking for debate, well, this is the place to be, also!

I am a conservative, and I'm running for the Illinois State General Assembly as a Republican.  I've been married to the same woman, Nancy, for 39 years, am the father of two and the grandfather of three.  I hope to see a lot of you around here (and, from what I've seen, you look to be a perfect fit!)

Ya know, I looked into going out that way when I went down to Springfield to take my state exam. It just didn't quite work into our schedule at the time, we would have had to stay an extra day and night and my boyfriend (at the time) was all "Noooo it looks boring" bla bla bla. I love that kind of stuff tho, I'm always the one pulling off to check out those Historical kind of sites.

Welcome! (Even if you are a Liberal Democrat.)
Smile

I'm Michael (Aracos - 42), a wedding photographer and occasional photojournalist, a mostly 'work' at home dad of Nicole (the PWCA - 13) and Beth (The Boo Sprite - 12 ). Their mind-blowingly cool mom, my wife of 23 years, Tracey (41) un-schools them here in our nice little recycled cabbage* a mile deep on the back end of our many forested acres in the hills of Western Maine. (The very same place that we homebirthed them!)  We're Pagan and interested in natural health, self governance, self reliance, organic local foods, alternative energy/building...etc...and GFR is a great place for all sorts of discussions like that.
(Gods, that all makes us sound so leftist-crunchy, but we're actually libertarian.)

Hiya been struggling with my internet but finally got a stable connection. I'm Wendle and I have 2 grown up kids, and 2 grand kids with another on the way. Due to problems soon after his birth Caden lives with us, so I've just started doing the school run again. Gotta admit I am loving it this time round.
As you can tell by my "accent" I'm from over the pond in God's own county of South Yorkshire, despite the crappy British weather I wouldn't wanna live anywhere else.
Looking forward to getting to know you.

Hi Dusty. Nice to meet you. I live in Coshocton County, close to the Holmes County line. We are not far from Millersburg at all. In fact, we go there often. Small world, huh?  biggrin

it occurred to me today that i never actually introduced myself to you!

i'm lyric, the ever elusive missing admin, who actually built this place but doesn't do much in the way of participating.  ph34r

i work at home as a web designer/programmer, and my man (chris/aetern) is currently going to school during the day to do essentially the same thing (but unlike me, he'll have degrees!) and working nights in a job that makes him miserable.  we have just the one child, a six year-old boy named kiernan (who is a better artist than both of his parents put together).

chris and i are both native ohioans as well, but we've been living in north carolina for several years.
